In Godzilla vs Kong (2021), Kong knows American Sign Language! How cool is that?
This is Kaylee Hottle, she is an actress who is born total deaf. American Sign Language is her first language.
In Godzilla vs Kong, she played Jia--the only survivor at Skull Island. Jia has a special bound and connection with Kong, a fictional titan in the movie sequel.
Answering interviews, the Godzilla vs Kong main cast Alexandra Skarsgard shared that he learned ASL from Kaylee on the set. She is a person who adapts very quickly, impressing everyone while filming the movie.
In real life, Kaylee is the 4th Deaf generation in her family. She goes to a school for the Deaf and her family actually lives in a Deaf community.
Before her role in the famous film, she has already been starred in multiple commercial ads and took part in "10 Deaf children: Once Powerful Message", advocating for the equality for the Deaf community.
She emphasized the importance of having Deaf actress for deaf roles, because they are the only one who understand their own culture and language the most.
In this iconic scene, sign language appears as a bridge between not only the Deaf community and hearing community, but also between human beings and superficial titans.
