Did you know that the actress who played Regan Abbott in “A Quiet Place” is a Deaf person?
Millicent Simmonds wasn't born deaf, she lost her ability of hearing when she was nearly one year old due to an overdose accident.
Her family learned American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate with Millicent and encouraged her to start reading from a young age.

When she was 3 years old, she went to a specialized school for the Deaf, Jean Massieu School. Throughout her years studying at school, she had participated in numerous theater activities as an actress.
At the age of 15, she'd got her role in A Quiet Place, marking a major milestone in her acting career.
She played Regan Abbott, the deaf daughter of a family struggling to survive in silence so that they could hide from the monsters that hunt by sound.
YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW THIS!

The actors in "A Quiet Place" took ASL to film some scenes like above and to communicate with Millicent.

While she uses ASL to communicate, Millicent has a cochlear implant that helps her hear slightly. She doesn't suffer from total deafness so sound is not actually completely lost on her.
